Re: Please bring back VidAngel app

@riddlemethis

Note that Roku did not say that. I did. Look at my signature. I don't work for Roku. I don't speak for Roku. Saying that I speak for Roku, or that what I say is the same as Roku saying it, is wrong. This is how misinformation starts. In your case, unintentional. I don't think you're trying to mislead anyone by saying that Roku said something when it was actually me, a Roku user, that said it.

Now, imagine what could happen if someone intentionally posted inaccurate information.

Personally (again, I don't now nor have I ever spoken on behalf of Roku) I would like to see VidAngel submit an app that followed Roku requirements (particularly the Roku Pay pay, which I suspect is the whole issue). But until they do and it's approved, you have to go to another platform to use the service.

Roku - please show us you care about us - work with VidAngel

Okay, I understand similar topics have been posted before, but this is a different spin on it.  I'm not asking for an explanation here, or lengthy debate.  This is simply a request to Roku to set aside any finger-pointing on all the reasons why VidAngel is no longer available on Roku.  Instead, please step up to represent your loyal Roku customers who would rather stream VidAngel on a Roku device instead of using a competitor's device.  I have no reason to use those other devices except for VidAngel.  All it would take is for Roku to reach out to VidAngel and say, "we're going to work together to get this done".  I'm confident VidAngel will do their part if they know Roku is engaged and actively collaborating to help each other out.  Whatever reasons have prevented it in the past, you can overcome those issues if you just commit and make it a priority.

Make it happen, Roku!

I bought my first Roku about 10 years ago.  Later when I found out about VidAngel, I was able to install it, not through the Roku store but with instructions on the VidAngel site.

Unfortunately I had lost my job over a year ago and to cut costs I cancelled all of my streaming services except for Amazon Prime and Netflix.  I deleted the paid streaming services from my Roku.  I wasn't unemployed for very long and once I started working again I resubscribed to the streaming channels I once had and to my surprise VidAngel could no longer be installed on the Roku.

I have no idea what Roku's problem is and it appears they aren't telling anyone what their problem is either.  I love VidAngel because for some reason the paid streaming channels think that the key to success is to filter out all English words with the exception of profanity.  I don't know anyone who uses that much profanity.  And even more ridiculous is historical dramas where people are using profanity that didn't even exist in those times.

VidAngel is great because I can watch an otherwise decent movie without being cussed at in every sentence uttered.

So I had to buy a FireTV device just to get VidAngel.  And even on FireTV you have to jump through hoops to install it and the app has a few problems on FireTV.

It is like every attempt anyone has come up with to allow the consumer to prevent profanity, sex and violence from entering their home, the movie industry fights them tooth and nail.  The movie industry does not adhere to the adage that the customer is always right.  They believe in force.

I also understand that my opinion is in the minority because for whatever reason, the majority is either indifferent or actually likes all of the profanity.

I would really appreciate it, and apparently so would a few others, if Roku would just certify VidAngel.  Neither my wife or myself like how FireTV works.  We like Roku much better and would like to stay with it.  But if Roku doesn't change whatever is blocking them, then we will never buy another Roku in the future.

Totally agree about VidAngel. We have several Roku devices & we’re also avid users of VidAngel. I don’t like using other devices, especially casting through my iPhone, in order to use VidAngel. This is my personal plea for Roku to resume inclusion of VidAngel in their App Store.

VidAngel lost support from Roku

Jump to solution

This app is a society saver. I understand people are fine with whatever is in a movie and I’m not judging, however, everyone’s morals are different and this simple app helps my family watch a lot of movies like my 10yr old daughter watching Forrest Gump, awesome movie but parts easily removed make it great for me and my family. I know certain parts of a movie help create characters but it’s not necessary for some.

With every studio or streaming blockbuster comes the inevitable rise in language, mature content, pushing the edge of the rating-especially PG-13, etc., for the next sequel. It seems studios don’t think their series will attract enough of an audience if these aren’t ratcheted up for shock value. The Marvel Universe - what happened here? Going from family fun to something my young teens don’t enjoy - it’s dark and must include fringe societal issues! Disney’s Free Guy - it is a great film if you drop half the adult language and uncomfortable innuendos while watching with my kids.

I believe if Roku wanted to they would help do what’s right with #VidAngel but they seem more worried about looking backed by religious zealots (many people have morals and values don’t attend church), lawsuits, siding against Hollywood, seeming weak. It’s hard enough doing the right things by your child, it would be amazing if we had help from someone like Roku.

I do have to laugh when realizing Amazon and Apple are the two alternatives I’m switching to that allow #VidAngel. Totally worth it for some piece of mind and decency in my home!!

Hi @Tksned,

Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand you have a query about the VidAngel App. Please be advised that we don't have details as to why the channel was removed.
You'll want to contact the channel's support directly to inquire further about that channel's features and functionality. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel providers themselves.
Also, you can view why a channel may be removed here.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.

Thanks,

Anjelie

Well I found my solution and while I wasn't pleased, However I am now.  Dropped Roku and purchased an Apple TV.  works great.  After having Roku for over 10 years I believe and 8 Roku Devices + 3 TV's I have switched.  Good bye and welcome Apple wasn't as expensive as I thought just to purchase the device on a Prime Day.  Look for the deals.   Funny adding an Apple TV box to a Roku TV but you got to do what you got to do.

I totally agree with you. We are so tired of listening to profanity in these movies (past and present) I don’t know why Roku cannot come up with their own profanity filter.

Roku, why are you not providing a profanity, violence, and sexual content filter to the Roku app/stick and Roku TV? Many people are asking for this. Many people would be willing to pay extra for this please consider providing this service it so needed.

Roku can't do this because that is controlled by the app in use. They can't alter what the app is doing. Roku provides the platform, and can't alter what the 3rd party app does.
