  • When you say, "hooked up", have you connected the TV to an internet connection either via wi-fi (Wireless) or wired (network cable) connection?

    Hi Diane16,

    Welcome to the Roku Community!

We noticed in your post that you are having trouble streaming on your Roku TV. No worries, help is here.

Before proceeding, could you please describe the specific behavior of the channels you're experiencing issues with? Does this only occur with free channels? In the meantime, we recommend trying the following steps:

    Check your network connection:

    1. Press Home on your Roku remote
    2. Scroll and select Settings
    3. Select Network
    4. Select Check connection

    Restart your device:

    1. Press Home on your Roku remote
    2. Scroll and select Settings
    3. Select System
    4. Select Power. If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step
    5. Select System restart.

If the issue persists, please let us know. We'll wait for your response.

    Thanks,
    Riamie

RokuRiamie-D I'm having, and have been having this same issue, and it's really become quite tiring and frustrating. Can't watch any of the Roku channels, or the movies on the Roku Channel menu, nor the trailers. I restart, reset the connection, do a system restart, etc, and still get just a black screen when I try to play ANYTHING (well, the OTA channels, play audio, but no video).

This has become really frustrating, especially as there are times when everything works, but a few hours later, or less, it all just stops working as it should. No rhyme or reason why it's acting so erratic and unreliably. I can see the menus & program guide, but that's it, no programming...

        Hi StevenCee,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community!

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and for the troubleshooting steps you took to fix the issue. We would like to look closely into this.

We highly suggest you try connecting your Roku device to a mobile hotspot and see if the same issue occurs. To do this, please follow the steps below:

        1. Follow the hotspot setup instructions for your phone
If you have an iOS® device, refer to Apple's documentation on setting up a personal hotspot.
If you have an Android™ device, refer to Google's documentation on sharing a mobile connection by hotspot.
        2. Connect your Roku device to a mobile hotspot
          > Press home of your Roku remote
          > Scroll down to Settings
          > Select Network Setup Connection Wireless
          > Select your mobile hotspot name from the list of available Wi-Fi networks
          > If you do not see your mobile hotspot name select Scan again to see all networks
          > Enter your mobile hotspot password
          > Select Connect

We hope to get this sorted out soon. If the issue persists please let us know.

        Cheers,
        Riamie
