If I use the Media Player app on Roku to steam videos from Universal Media Server, the videos play, but I cannot fast forward or rewind. I tested a Playstation 3 with Universal Media Server, and I can fast forward/rewind, so I don't think it's an issue with UMS. Anyone seen something similar and have a solution? Thanks.
When problems are confined to a particular channel, it may be that the channel didn't install properly, that it didn't update correctly, or that the installation has otherwise gotten corrupted. A reinstall may fix the problem, so give it a try.
Remove/reinstall procedure:
Idon't really expect this will make any difference, but it's not all that hard to find out.
I'm having the same problem. This solution does not work. Any other ideas? It's very frustrating not to be able to use the media player for anything other than a simple 'play'.
Just a guess, but your media is probably in a format that Roku doesn't support and UMS is transcoding it into a format that Roku sees as live video which can't be rewound or fast forwarded. The solution would be to convert your media into a format that Roku supports so UMS doesn't have to transcode.
I had the same problem and then I used the Roku app remote control voice control and it worked fine.
