We're watching hockey on ESPN + through the roku. At the commercial break, only the beginning of 4 or 5 ads play over and over. It's really frustrating.

I found a post that sounded close, but when looking for it again, can't find it, but wrote down the info requested.

You would have to contact ESPN about that. They provide and support their channel on Roku devices. Sounds like they have an issue with their ad server.
