No Audio with HD-Homerun Roku App

Hi,

I had the same problem... went into the Roku settings/digital output format/Custom/DTS and turned it on. That fixed it on two different Roku models and two different TV manufacturers.

  • For those with no audio, I had the same issue.

To fix I just went into Settings-Audio- and switched from "Auto" to Custom and just enabled Dolby (normal) and DTS.

I restarted to make sure it took hold and then opened the app again and have audio now. This is on a Roku Express stick going to TV speakers.

My Roku Express4k doesn't seem to have the same luck though with piping from HDMI to TV to receiver.

Edit- the 4k to the soundbar was solved by changing the TV sound settings (for HDMI ARC to soundbar) to "bitstream" from PCM. After that change I had audio on that as well.

  • I think I figured out my issue:  While you are in the HDHomerun app, press the asterisk button, then you’ll see a setting for Volume Leveling.  If it’s On, set to Off.  This resolved for me.

This absolutely solved the problem for me… thank you for posting.   I should add - I followed all other suggestions (ensuring DTS was enabled in the sound output options in my Roku audio settings, ensuring that bitstream instead of PCM was enabled in my soundbar advanced settings).  These may have had an impact considering I did not perform negative testing without these in place.  But until I used the asterisk option on my Roku (while the HDHomerun app was open) and turned off volume leveling, the AC3 playback error message would appear.  As soon as I turned off volume leveling, navigated back to the Roku Home Screen (effectively shutting down the HDHomerun app), and opened HDHomerun again, the AC3 playback error was gone and the sound immediately was working!

Wchowe you need to provide some additional information. What model Roku device do you have? What model HDHR device do you have? Is you Roku connected to an AVR, or directly to a TV and using the TV speakers?

Are you watching an ATSC 3.0 channel (this is the next gen of digital TV, and the channel number is likely above 100 (mine start at 104). ATSC 3.0 is only available on the HDRomeRun Flex 4K tuner to my knowledge. But ATSC 3.0 uses AC-4 as the audio codec, and the only Roku players that can decode that is the 4800/4802 Ultra. Any other Roku device is not going to have audio for ATSC 3.0 stations.

I have 2 Roku Ultra Lt connected to Samsung 4K TV's  Had the same problem.  I finally got sound to work on the 8K Neo QLED 65" then copied the setting to the 82"

Settings, Audio, Audio mode - Auto (DD),  Preferred streaming format - Auto,  Digital output format - Custom - DTS (On)

I no longer get the (*) page, it just plays the channel with sound!

      Good Luck!   Skumote
