My children were searching Roku for a film to watch and I was shocked to see an ad for a film on the search screen (before they had searched for anything) under the heading popular free movies, called Free the Nipple with an image of a pair of breasts! Totally inappropriate. We have tried to hide the ads but to no avail. I don't want to see adverts for films like this nevermind my children seeing them.
Is there a way to hide adverts for films on the search screen?
There currently is no way to exclude these movie posters/film cover art from the searches when using the RokuTV/Roku device for searching.
The above was from Free the Nipple (2014). Roku switched to an image-based Results screen in OS11, and abandoned the older text-based Results Screen. (guess they did not foresee that some images on the cover art, which are meant to grab viewers attention, may be concerning to some). Although, in fairness, there are two black X's in this image, and a quick glance looks like eyeballs (cartoonish "dead eyes").
At present, users can only hide/block ads on the Home Screen by pressing the * (asterick) button on the Roku Remote and selecting "Hide this ad". (or selecting Manage ad Preferences in order to more tailor the ads). If this movie appeared on the Home Screen in the ad section on right, you could hide it (as an ad), but would not exclude it from any Searches an an available film.
Hi @Theresa99,
A warm welcome here in the Roku Community!
We will be more than happy to take a closer look into this issue that you're experiencing with the ads. What channel are you seeing these inappropriate ads on?
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks,
John
Hi John,
It's not within an app, it's from the Roku home screen and then Search

Sorry, doesn't apply to this query Eunice
Thanks AvsGunnar. That's what we've found - there's currently no way to moderate the suggested search, which sucks...
We'll have to agree to disagree on the image.
