Defective equipment straight out of the box..

Constant skipping & jumping.

Just clicking the back button takes me out of the app and back to home screen.

Scrolling through videos it jumps over 3 or 4 videos at a time.

You need to provide some specifics. What model Roku do you have? What channel(s) is this occurring with? 

The Back button on the remote is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. It is used to back out of what is on the screen. If you are playing a video, it should take you back to the selection screen. If you're on the selection screen it should take you back to the Roku home screen. Some channels might ask if that's what you want to do, while others simply do it.
