Accessibility and language

Every time I switch to a different channel the closed caption starts. I go into Accessibility and check box off and it will go back to always closed caption. How do I fix this?

Re: Accessibility and language

What app are you using to watch these "channels"?

Re: Accessibility and language

I'm sorry I don't understand apps? We load freevee or tubi or pluto channels like that. It happens while watching the free channels. It doesn't happen on hulu paramount + or max.

Re: Accessibility and language

Roku has intentionally confused what "channel" means.  Basically, if it's an icon on your Home Screen, it's an app in spite of anything Roku might call it.  Roku themselves have referred to them as channels, apps, and plugins, so even they can't get it straight.  Within some apps (like Hulu and Tubi) there may be channels.  I asked which app because you mentioned changing channels.  Some apps have their own way of enabling or disabling captions that override, ignore, or change the Roku global setting.  Whatever app you're using, see if it has its own setting for captions.

Re: Accessibility and language

Aha! Thanks for clarifying, janneysmustang. Totally get it now. Like renojim said, those "channels" are actually apps, and some have separate caption settings. I'd check the settings within Freevee, Tubi, and Pluto to see if they have a caption option you can turn off.
