Access to local TV stations using xfinity app

After activating a Roku Express 4K, then going thru the set-up routine, it was connected to the router using the "wireless" option.   Then had to download the Xfinity App.  Then had to "register the device" on Comcast's website thru another  set-up routine.  The xfinity app works, but only as it would on a cell phone or Ipad.  I.E. you can't watch certain channels (local & cable news) which are only available on your "home" wi-fi network.  Apparently a wireless connection on an inhouse router doesn't qualify as the in-home network, even when the router is inside the home which seems strange.  So, does the Roku 4K Express have to be "hardwired" (via an adapter cable) to the router for the Xfinity App to recognize that you're on your "in-home network"?  If so, there's a link on the Roku support website that lists several "tested" micro / ethernet cable adapters, and then links over to Amazon to view/buy the adapters where most of the descriptions say specifically they "aren't compatible with Roku"   ????!  So does anyone know how to sort out this this confusion?

Re: Access to local TV stations using xfinity app

That's probably a question for Comcast. Just a couple of random ideas that might help: Check that you are connected to your own router. I think you can get this error if you connect to one of their XFINITY hotspots. Also, when you say: "inhouse router" do you mean that you have two routers? ie: your own subnet router after/inside Xfinity's gateway? That could potentially confuse something.

I doubt that wired vs wireless would make a difference, but I don't know what they are looking for,  It could be something totally on their end like your public IP address is not in the list used by the TV app.

Banned but back. Because why not?

Are you using a VPN or anyway to mask your IP address? This could also cause issues as even privacy mode in Edge could cause problems.

Hardwiring vs wireless shouldn't make any difference if you are connecting on your home network, unless those devices are using something to change the IP address.
