won't get past "lets get started " looping

Have done as directed on the "lets get started" screne 20 plus times - pick my wi-fi and get signal excellent - put in password and it checks off connected to both wi-fi and internet- looks and finds update - does the update and tells me that it will restart when finished - shuts off -  about 15 seconds later turns on and gives me jumping ROKU letters. then flips me back to "lets get started" page and tells me I'm not connected. This loop just keeps repeating. I have unpluged and reconnected every connection and device involved. Other devices are working perfectly on my wi-fi. I've spent hours reading/looking at the web site and can only find info that seems to apply after I get past my problem. I have also noticed that the remote seems to do everything except turn any part of the system off or on. With 6 to 8 hours now invested in trying to make this thing work I am wondering if it is'nt just time to just trash can this thing?

    Could just be a power supply issue.

    If you are using your TV's USB port for power, try using a power adapter at the wall outlet instead. (any 5volt, 1amp USB cell phone charging adapter should work).

      I've set up 10 or more Rokus over the years and, thankfully, have not experienced this problem.

      When the setup fails to complete here are a some things that some people have reported worked for them. They may not be universally successful, but they are at least worth a try.

      Easiest to try, so try this first: Restart your router, even if other devices on the network are not having problems. When your router has completed its startup, try repeating your Roku setup.

      If you are powering your Roku by plugging into the USB port on the TV, try powering from house power via a USB power adapter, as some TV USB ports don't supply enough power to drive a Roku reliably. If your Roku didn't come with an adapter, or if you don't have a Roku adapter handy, another USB power adapter you have from another device should work as long as the fine print on it says it outputs at least 1 amp.

      Try using a different WiFi network to do the update - perhaps via a WiFi hotspot on your mobile phone or by taking it to a friend's house - and see if it will complete the startup. If successful, then redo the WiFi connection to use your intended WiFi network via Settings > Network > Set up connection. Why this works, when it does, I haven't a clue.
