Roku app keyboard scrambles input

When I type or paste a password into the entry field it looks fine but when I transmit it to my Roku device the characters are rearranged snd sometimes characters are dropped. The only way I can enter a password is eith the Roku remote, a very tedious process.

My fevice is an Express 4K running software version 14.6.4 build 9915 and my app is 12.8.0 updated August 1.
