Volume and screen reader issues

Now if only I could resolve the other problems with Roku and my LG tv.  One being when I click the volume up button sometimes it continues to increase so loud, up to 95 the other day before I could get it to stop.  The whole neighborhood can hear it.  The other problems are the tv keeps announcing everything like anytime the volume changes it will say what # it is, announcing what connection is being used when Roku first comes on, any update notices.  It just started doing this by itself a few months ago and no matter what I can't get it to stop.

To fix your problem with the volume button on the Roku remote, try these steps:

Remove the battery from the remote for at least 10 seconds, then visit here to pair the remote.

On the other hand, you can turn off the text-to-speech reader on your Roku by going to Settings > Accessibility > Screen Reader > and then turning the screen reader off.

    I hope this helps!

  • Sounds like two different issues.  First, the TV announcing what is on the screen, check in both the TV settings and Roku settings to make sure you don't have accessibility/screen reader settings turned on.  Make sure those are both disabled.  Hopefully that should fix that issue.

The volume issue, I would try repairing your remote first and see if that helps. It is possible you are getting some type of interference in the signal but see if a re-pair will help.  You could also have a stuck button on the remote or even a bad remote but start with trying to pair again first.   Maybe also try a system restart of the Roku.

I did the repairing thing a couple times to no avail.  It didn't do this until I had to buy a new Roku stick ('cause the stick itself died) which came with the remote.  Thinking it's a bad remote, even the batteries don't last long in it.  My old stick system didn't do this.

Will try the screen reader setting for the other problem and let ya know how it goes.

I've ended up having to go back to my other remote.  I tried repairing the one that was having volume problem and it still did it.

As far as the tv announcing I followed your directions and it worked! Ends up it was in the LG tv settings.  Didn't find the "text-to-speech reader" option in Roku settings.

Thank you very much for your help.  Now I at least the tv won't be blasting the neighborhood.

Glad you got it working.  Sometimes those remotes just go bad after a while, could be liquid got in it or debris of some kind or just the mechanism inside went bad.
