Voice Remote Pro only works when plugged in

Voice remote pro will not work unless plugged in. It is fully charged, I restarted the Roku, and I tried resetting/repairing the remote but it only works when plugged in. When plugged in, the TV says the remote is 100% charged. When unplugged, it does not work

i tried using the support chat, but it said there was a 5 minute wait and an hour and a half later there still wasn’t a response

    Here are some steps you can try:
     
    • Test with different power outlets, micro USB cables, and USB chargers.
    • Reset the remote: Press and hold the Back/pairing button and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. 
    If the issue persists after trying the troubleshooting steps provided, kindly send me a Private Message with the following details:
     
    1. Serial number of the Roku player this remote is paired to.
    2. Is this the remote that came with that device? If not, kindly specify if this is a Voice Remote Pro or Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition).
    3. When and where did you purchase this?

  • I had this exact issue, also described in https://community.roku.com/t5/Remotes/Voice-remote-not-working-unless-plugged-in-charging-issue/td-p/909591I did not see anyway to reply to that post. 

    To be clear, I have a voice remote pro with the micro usb and two shortcut buttons. One day it stopped working. Charging it made the TV say 100% over and over again. It worked when plugged in, but when I unplugged it, nothing. The remote reset suggestion did nothing. That linked post had several commenters saying they found the battery ground wire disconnected. So I opened up my remote and sure enough there was a loose black wire coming from the battery connector. I resoldered that wire into the battery board (the small circuit board attached to the battery, not the connector from the main board) and sure enough now the remote works. I know this solution has been said (and ignored) before in the linked post, but I figured I’d add my 2¢.

    Alternatively you could replace the battery (if you can find the right one with the right connector) or just replace the remote, but if you are comfortable soldering, you might be able to fix your existing remote.
