I tried all the troubleshooting procedures above. They don’t do anything, as far as I can tell, with the remote transmitting the IR signal to the television for volume control. The remotes, both of them, will simply stop transmitting. I can verify this with a cell phone camera. Sometimes they will work normally for a few seconds, then stop again for days.
I gave up trying to figure this out. A few days ago I discovered that both are working normally again. I did nothing to either remote after trying those troubleshooting procedures. After those procedures failed to solve anything I just lived with having to use the Roku remotes for power and channels, then the original TV remote for volume. I kept testing the remotes multiple times a day, and then they both simply started working again.
Were there any recent Roku updates for the remotes?
Whatever happened that solved my problem, I hope it sticks.
Disappointed to read this and not see a resolution. It's happening to me. I even bought a new Roku with the hopes that it would pinpoint a bad device (streamer or remote). No dice! Both are failing.
I've done the IR setup several times and sometimes it catches it, but then disregards it. I'll need to have two remotes now to control the Roku and TV volume. I'm past my 30 day return window so Im stuck. I don't wanna get a tivo stick and then a year later have this issue.
Roku - I hope more people report this so that you get it fixed. I'm annoyed with your 'accepted solution's.

Hi there! mikeyinlasvegas
We understand you’re having trouble getting your remote to set up with IR. Since you’ve already tried setting it up a few times, could you tell us what other steps you’ve tried so far?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
