The device will not even let me fully factory reset it. It is also plugged in directly to the wall outlet and I tried using the surge protector too. Still nothing. Very frustrating.
goneeks, what do you mean by "will not even let me fully factory reset it"? Holding the reset button for a full 30 seconds should get you to the "Let's get started" screen. If it doesn't do that, what does it do?

I hold that button and nothing happens at all. light just stays on its traditional white light and nothing happens. no reaction to my TV or anything. not sure what to do.

I assume you never got anywhere with this?
I have the same symptoms. Just black screen, white light on, no reaction with button press.Tried on multiple TV's, multiple cables

MichelZ, have you tried a factory reset? That may be all that's left to try.
