Roku Remote App not showing power and volume buttons

    Please be aware that the volume control for your TV is not available in the Roku mobile app when connected to a Roku player.

    The mobile app only offers volume controls for Roku TV models or when using the mobile private listening feature.

    (If you have headphones connected to your phone and use mobile private listening, you can control the audio level using your phone's volume control for this playback type.)

That will only work if the TV supports power/volume control via CEC.  Not all do, so maybe that's why it's not in the app.

The Roku remote app has the power and volume buttons showing when I use it on my TCL TV that has Roku built into it. 

 I installed a new Roku streaming stick into my TCL TV, but the Roku remote app doesn’t show the power and volume buttons.   

Hopefully, Roku will update the remote app.

      I don’t understand Roku’s business model. Users have been requesting app power and volume control for streaming sticks FOR YEARS, and Roku refuses to address it. I replaced all of my FireStick devices with Roku because I bought a couple of Roku TVs and figured it would be easier to have everything on the same system - but no! Roku’s intransigence on this issue is prompting me to dump all the Roku devices - INCLUDING the two TVs - and move to another platform that actually allows users control over their devices, whether built in or added on. Roku: explain to me why I shouldn’t do this? Also: what is the LOGIC behind having this dichotomy within the app? Absolutely ridiculous.

        The dichotomy seems pretty obvious to me.  With a Roku TV, the app is communicating with the device that controls the TV - because it is the TV.  When you program a roku remote to control a brand-X TV, this is done by choosing IR codes that the remote will send, because most TVs have only IR receivers.  But few phones have IR emitters, so no direct communication path.

        But as renojim​ already said, some TVs can be controlled by HDMI-CEC and some people (not me) have that enabled, so a TV controlled via Wi-Fi to the Roku followed by HDMI-CEC to the TV may be possible in at least some cases.

        But perhaps not common enough or reliable enough for them to bother.  At least not yet.
