Roku features suggestions

  1. I think that settings for closed captions should be improved so that one can adjust the font, opacity, and size of the subtitles.
  2. Roku TVs should be updated to allow users to adjust the upscaling algorithm/settings for lower-resolution videos and OTA use.
  3. Add more Aspect Ratio settings for stretching 4:3 content to 16x9 and vice versa.
  4. The UI should be reworked to be more visually appealing and less flat-looking
  5. ADD A WEB BROWSER
  6. Add parental control settings to restrict content on TV, movies, etc. (will help parents)

    1. Already exists:  Settings/Accessibility/Captions (apps that dont use the OS captioning/subtitles have their own settings - have to take that up with them)
    2. Consumer-level OS/devices simply rarely allow this - the closest you get the $100 FCG3's Super Resolution on/off setting, or the $150-200 NS19's Basic/Enhanced/AI- Upscale & Low/Medium/High settings (neither allow direct choice of algorithm) - this simply isnt going to happen for $15-80 devices
    3. Already exists:  That would be the TV's job, so they arent going to add this to player/soundbar models, and Roku TV's already have Auto/Direct/Normal/Stretch/Zoom (equivalent to other TV platforms).
    4. Every streaming platform uses the same basic '8 foot TV interface' UI concept of large tiles for apps/content (FireTV OS, Android/GoogleTV OS)  - it needs to be kept clean/simple enough for everyone to use (one could argue RokuOS' simple/r UI is a large part of its NA market leading presence)
    5. Already exists: Roku Browser already exists and is on every model/device - however is not directly accessible to end users for a variety of reasons (and likely will never be due to primarily licensing/legal issues).
    6. This could/needs to be improved - device/OS-level user profiles would/could go a long way towards this - otherwise apps/services have their own parental control settings (e.g. profiles).
    7. Noise Reduction could/should be improved for Roku TVs simply by adding settings for it like many other TV platforms do.
    8. More memory isnt an issue (depends on model - newer 2020+ devices have more memory) since apps are limited to a 4MB upload size from developer (yes, there are exceptions) - CPU/GPU 'power' depends on the model (different player/sound/TV models use different SoCs from different manufacturers).
  • Also, the noise reduction feature on many Roku TVs can be vastly improved, as when watching YouTube videos, and OTA broadcasts, it's barely noticeable

Also, I wish the Roku boxes had more memory (say 4-8 GB) and CPU power on board, as playing videos (especially 4K HDR 60fps) is a bit laggy and slow.
