Only getting stereo output, no surround sound on any streaming channels, Roku streaming stick 4k

Just setting up a friend’s new Denon receiver x1700h. It supports all Dolby, Dolby plus, atmos , etc.  connected her streaming stick 4k (3820 model)  to an hdmi input on the receiver and only get pcm...

    We are grateful for your prompt response as we try to comprehensively understand the issue you’re having.

    Please be advised that some channels may also require you to change the audio setting within the channel. For example, Netflix may require you to select “English (5.1)” under “Audio and Subtitles.”

    In addition, if you use volume modes, movies, and TV shows, you stream with a surround sound format, such as Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby ATMOS, it may be converted to stereo. If your Roku device is connected to an AVR or soundbar, you may need to set volume modes to ‘Off’ to hear the surround sound format.
