That does not help at all. It is a Roku streaming stick 4k. It is directly connected to a Denon ATV which supports all the latest Dolby audio. The receiver is only r3ceiving pcm stereo from the Roku. I thought the Roku does not decode the audio from the streaming app like Netflix. Why is it no sending Dolby digital plus to the receiver? I tried all the hdmi output options. Auto, custom.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Philt56!
We are grateful for your prompt response as we try to comprehensively understand the issue you’re having.
Please be advised that some channels may also require you to change the audio setting within the channel. For example, Netflix may require you to select “English (5.1)” under “Audio and Subtitles.”
In addition, if you use volume modes, movies, and TV shows, you stream with a surround sound format, such as Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby ATMOS, it may be converted to stereo. If your Roku device is connected to an AVR or soundbar, you may need to set volume modes to ‘Off’ to hear the surround sound format.
We hope this helps. Please get back to us if you need more assistance.
All the best,
Emman

OMG. Thank you! I was going out of my mind switching cables, deep diving into the AVR settings, etc.

I too have had this problem and could not work out why - tried the solution here and it fixed.
But to be a little more specific - TV Volume levelling on the Roku switches the output to PCM only! So ensure this is OFF.
The setting is not easy to find - here it is:
Using the remote: While watching content, press the 'Star' button on your Roku remote.
Using the settings menu: Press the Home button on your Roku remote, scroll to Settings, then select Audio.
