Loosing internet connection and everything else in the house works still except the roku

Never fails everyday watching tv on my roku and we lose connection to the internet. My kids are in the other room using the Xbox or on their iPads and they are still connected to the internet, it’s just the roku. Have read thru all the posts and can’t figure out what’s going on. Had Epb come out and bring a new router, it’s nothing wrong with the internet it’s the roku. Please help! It seems to fix itself after a 10 mins or I reset the router. But that’s annoying

  • Disconnect both HDMI & power cables from your Roku /Roku TV. Turn off your router/modem. Wait about 10 minutes, then turn the router back on, wait 5-10, then reconnect/reinstall the Roku. Once at Home screen, go into settings, network, and do a reset - that will delete your SSID & password, so make certain you know each. Roku will restart, go to settings, network, set up network, select your network from the scan, enter your password, and finally you’ll be connected. Good luck!

My Spectrum cable modem was the issue! I had all he disconnection issues folks have noted here, and went to Firesticks which did work. However,  service was still slow and unreliable overall. Spectrum came out and checked it and told me my modem was out of date, and installed a new one. Updated to a new router and mesh system for the house at the same time. All my Roku devices work fine now.

I had the same problem with 5 Roku devices suddenly not connecting to my network when they had been fine the day before.  Went through all the troubleshooting to no avail.  Went poking around in the router settings and turned off "WiFi Protected Set-up" and everything started working normally.  This setting has the router look for a response (PIN or the press of a button on the device) from the device, which the Roku is not equipped to give. This does seem to be temporally associated with some event, e.g., a firmware update, but on which side?  Roku did not seemed to have done an update around the time it happened to me.  I have noticed in these forums that similar events seem to be clustered around certain days. A lot of people had this problem in early March. For me it started in early April. Perhaps different routers updated at different times. I am using a very recent Linksys.  My personal uninformed conspiracy theory is that there is something in the proprietary WPS code that is supplied to the router mfgrs that is triggering the router to look for a WPS response from the Roku devices.  It could happen.

  • Keeps happening as well as remote stops working new batteries.  Is it time to move to fire stick?

  • I have a 3900X ROKU Express and I can confirm this is technically NOT a ROKU issue.

I have XFINITY and I could reset, reconnect the modem and ROKU stick and the connection would return then would be lost after 10 mins or so before disconnecting on its own.

    Rinse, Repeat and Anger....

I called XFINITY and they pushed out a dedicated 2.4GHz signal from my router.

I connected to the new dedicated signal and voila...  No issues and faster than ever.

It seems the new router firmware adjusted the Wifi signal so it no longer works on older ROKU devices.

I'm not tech savvy enough to understand it, but it worked.

  • Try changing your WiFi password.

I jumped through hoops to try and figure out why my roku kept disconnecting and I found that if I just reset my WiFi password it automatically starts workin again!

It’s annoying but I’m lazy and don’t want to do any more investigating. I’ve had to change my password 3 or 4 times this month to make the roku work again.

Feel your pain, happens to me at least twice a day. The router is working my internet works but the WiFi stops on all devices not just the Roku. I've heard rumors that the internet providers do this on purpose so you think it's the WiFi speed and they want you to upgrade! Total BS if that's true!!

  • Same thing happening to me . I live at an apartment that used to be kinda like a motel that you pay week to week but they switched to apartments . My roku tv loses connection literally every 2 days and I have to call the wifi customer service number for my apartment (I don’t have a router in my room, it’s free wifi that comes w the apartment) and they have to reset it every time just for me to have to call again in another 2 days . Roku customer service doesn’t know why it happens , wifi customer service doesn’t know why it happens , and nobody is able to fix it . It’s so irritating , but at least the line is open 24/7 so I can call to fix it at any time . Still, nobody wants to Have to call customer service every other day over the wifi . It’s annoying as **bleep** .

      Thanks for the post.

It's possible that there may be wireless interference between the Roku TV and the wireless network that you are using.

Have you tried connecting your Roku TV to an alternate wireless network, such as a mobile hotspot, to see if you are experiencing the same issues?

Please keep us posted what you find out and we will be able to assist you further.

      Thanks,
      Danny
