How to disable the Voice that narrates every move I make on my TV?

Last night a voice started narrating every move I make on my TV, how do I get it to stop? Example.. tells me what I'm watching, says loading &  playing during commercials,  resuming to what I'm watching after commercials etc!

  • Hi, broncofan58

Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.

We appreciate you for reaching out to us here for support, and it's our pleasure to assist. To disable the narration voice-over, kindly press the star (*) button on your Roku remote 5 times consecutively. A pop-up on the upper right screen will show that the Screen Reader feature has been turned off.

    We hope this helps.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • Hi glenda1654,

A warm welcome to the Roku Community!

We understand that you want to turn off your voice description. We're glad to assist you with your concern.

    • Note: The screen reader was previously known as the Audio Guide.

You can customize your screen reader experience by going to Settings, then Accessibility, and then Screen Reader. The various configurations available to you are as follows:

    Screen reader on/off:

    • Turn the screen reader on or off. This is the same as pressing Star four times.

    Shortcut:

    • Speech rate allows you to customize the speed at which the screen reader reads out text. There are four speech rate settings – Slow, Normal, Fast, and Very Fast. When you navigate to a particular setting, the screen reader gives you a sample of how it sounds at that speed. To select a specific speech rate, you must press OK on your Roku remote.

For full information on this, you can take a look at this link: How to enable the text-to-speech screen reader on your Roku® streaming device | Official Roku Support.

We hope this helps! We'll be here if you need anything else.

    All the best,

    Chel

        Hey, shpqzny6t.

        We're glad the steps worked!

One reason the audio guide, also known as a screen reader, was enabled could be that you accidentally pressed the Star button on the remote five times consecutively.

  • Have any person from roku tech support posted a way to turn this off? I have disabled all the audio accessibility options and it's still talking but only on my Paramount +

Yes I have tried all of that, now that I reset it to factory settings the roku isn't working properly. It is wired connected to the internet yet it keeps saying the connection is failed. When I check the connection it is always EXCELLENT. What ever the last system update was it **bleep**ed up everything. How to I fix it? Right now to get it to work I have to change from wired to wireless everytime I go to a new app or episode
