Error 003 - Can't update software

I have code on tv 003 won't do anything

    We appreciate you for sharing your concern here with us, and we'd be more than glad to assist. First, let's perform a troubleshooting step on your Roku TV by navigating to Settings > System > Power (skip if no sub-menu) > System Restart. Then, restart your router/modem. After this, kindly check if you're still seeing the same issue occur.

  • The solution to error 003 is to use another wireless/internet device (hotspot, mobile jetpack or a neighbor's Wi-Fi with permission) to update software as a workaround. Roku connects to my network without issue but could not perform software update.

    Another community member states to remove device(s) from Roku account, but I don't think it's necessary to update software as this was a network connectivity issue.

      It is automatically connected to an xfinity wifi that has no cloud. How do I change the wifi?

        Ram1985  If you have Comcast/Xfinity Internet service, you have a modem that is also your router. You can adjust it several ways. There is an Xfinity app for your phone, there's a web site, and you can log into the modem itself. However, if you lease your modem, Comcast has locked some of the settings so you cannot change them. For example, you can't change the channel number, the mode the radio uses, and a few other settings. You have to contact Comcast support and have them make the changes. My experience with them isn't that great, so I put the modem in Bridge mode and added my own router to handle the WiFi and firewall functions. It's an additional cost (although only one time), but I now have complete control over my WiFi settings and Comcast can't touch them.

      Correct: 003 is a network error. Removing the device from the user account would be of no help.

      Since it's working via an alternate Internet source, that generally points to an issue with your home wireless connection. In particular, if your ISP is a cable company, some of them have been pushing an update to your modem that changes the 2.4 GHz radio mode to G/N Only. Due to a software issue with the modem, Roku devices don't like that setting. Instead, the Mode needs to be set on B/G/N. If your ISP has you locked out of making that change, you need to contact their tech support to get it accomplished.

      Roku respectfully gives you the option to update or replace your Device/software.

      Then reminding you in RED Keywording, to relate data underwriting.

      K, so my question is, as a continuous issue of training up for free?

      What and who do all of us subscribe to?

      Tubi, in fact, is hands down on the streaming platform.

      yet, Roku has us all running hopefully as strong eh...

       

  • my tv stopped connecting to my wifi so i factory restarted it and then unplugged it. now i have to connect it to the network to be able to access anything on the tv. when i log into the wifi it says connected and then shortly after it tells me that it’s checking for software updates and then says “please set up your network connection and try again. 003”. it is a viscous cycle i’ve been going through for 2 months now

  • My Roku TV will not connect to Wi-Fi and every time I try to connect it is gives ve green checkmarks but sends me to checking for new software then it says unable to update software and at the bottom it says error code 003 I'm so confused because all the other TV's in this house are Roku and they all work on this network and I have tried all the things that every other support thing told me to do and none of them worked please help this has been going on for as long as I have had it so just help me.

      Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue you are experiencing while updating your Roku device. We are glad to help you with this problem.

      If your Roku streaming device is stuck on a software update, it is possible that the Roku service may be temporarily unresponsive. If an error code is encountered during an attempt to update the software, wait a few minutes and try again. If Roku is aware of an extended outage, an alert will be displayed near the top of the Roku support site.

      If there is no alert and you continue to see the error message after multiple attempts, the update failure is likely the result of a network connectivity issue

      Try the steps below to help resolve the problem.

      • We suggest that you try restarting both your Roku device and router. This may help to resolve any connectivity issues you are experiencing.
      • Do you have cellular data so we can try connecting your device to your hotspot?

        I spent an hour on the phone twice with TCL ROKU support and nothing worked...this is chinese technology and its failing.

      Some cell providers restrict data through hotspots. Sometimes, it's based on the size of the download. Sometimes, it's restricting access to certain servers (often those whose purpose is large downloads). And, depending on your plan, you may be throttled to a speed that Roku thinks you're losing connection. Nearly all (if not all) "unlimited" plans still have a high-speed restriction, and throttle the speed after 20-35 GB during the cycle.

      Have you attempted to restart your router? If not, we suggest doing so and then checking if the issue persists. We suggest connecting to a hotspot using your mobile device. A hotspot can be beneficial if you experience a temporary network outage. If the problem persists, it would be best to keep working with your internet service provider for further assistance.

  • TV was fine when I turned it off Saturday night,  Sunday morning screen came on a ladies voice said to push upper right home button and upper left back button but I was using my xfinaty internet remote and it was different so I found my Roku remote I guess she got tired of waiting,  she didn't respond.  Screen only shows can't update Please set up your network connection and try again   error 003 and choice to try again or cancel neither does anything. No way to go to settings or anywhere so can't set up whatever it wants should I have my internet service provider come? Internet is working on phone, tablets ect.

      Thank you for raising your concern regarding this matter. We'd be more than happy to find you the best resolution possible.

      Having Error 003 means that your network connection is unstable. Even with having a strong internet connection, fluctuations in speed or signal strength can cause delays or errors like this. We also need to consider how many devices are connected.

      Nevertheless, we suggest rebooting your router by unplugging it for about 60 seconds and replugging it again. 

      If the error 003 still occurs, we can also try to connect your Roku player to an alternative network connection to see if this will make any difference. Perhaps a mobile hotspot would do.

        To whomever suggested rebooting and that the signal strength was unstable - that advice is not universally correct. Our wifi strength according to the Roku screen was strong and therefore, rebooting would be a waste of time.

        After switching roku devices from another TV my conclusion this roku device is faulty. Why? Because the other device worked on this current TV before switching to the other one and now this TV is not working. Therefore, this particular Roku device is faulty.

        So, after shutting down all our systems the correct proceedure now is to replace the faulty Roku device.

      Please note that this will result in a complete system reset of your device. Hold the reset button on your Roku until the device turns off and reboots. At this point you will be able to setup the device as if it were new. Also at that point you are able to sign in from a hotel or dorm room. Once you are prompted and log into your Roku account the device will reload all your apps.

  • All other devices work on current home network. One device will not update because of code 003….is my device basically shot at this point. It’s only a year or so old

      I also tried resetting the device. Now I need to re set it up but it won’t let me do anything without updating but it won’t update 🤷🏻‍♂️
