connect roku remote to roku tv without internet
I'm trying to connect my roku remote to my roku tv that isn't connected to the internet.. the remote doesn't have a pairing button and i'm unsure where the original roku tv remote is
Since you don't know where the original Roku TV remote is, are you saying you are trying to use a remote for a separate Roku device, to control a Roku TV?
Roku TVs use a different set of IR commands than Roku devices -- IR remotes for one cannot control the other. So your options for controlling the Roku TV are:
- A replacement Roku TV remote
Roku TVs from these manufacturers all respond to the same set of IR (infrared) commands and so can be used interchangeably with remotes for any Roku TV in this group:
Element, Haier, Hitachi, Insignia, JVC, Magnavox, onn, Philips, RCA, Sanyo, TCL, Westinghouse.
Remotes from HiSense and Sharp can only be used with HiSense and Sharp Roku TVs because they issue a different set of IR commands. Roku TVs from HiSense and Sharp themselves, though, support both sets of IR commands so they can be used with remotes from either of these two groups of manufactures.
(Thanks to Tivoburkee for this info)
You can often find Roku TV remotes for one brand or another, or generic third party Roku TV remotes at retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc, or from online sellers like Amazon. Just be sure they say they are for Roku TVs.
You may also find inexpensive universal IR remotes with Roku TV codes, but be certain they list Roku TV, not just Roku. - A Roku Voice Remote
Although Roku TVs are supplied by their manufacturers with line-of-sight infrared (IR) remotes, Roku TVs can also be controlled by a Roku Voice Remote. Unlike the point-and-shoot IR remotes, the Voice Remotes are point-anywhere remotes that control the TV over wifi. They must first be paired to the particular TV they will be used with, via the directions included with the remote.
There are two models, the Voice Remote (replaceable batteries, ~$20) and the Voice Remote Pro (rechargeable with a private listening earphone jack, ~$30). You can purchase either model directly from Roku, or at the same retailers listed above for replacement Roku TV remotes.
- Roku Remote App on a mobile device
This option only works for Roku devices or TVs that have ALREADY been set up and are connected to your home network. You can't use the app to set up a Roku that is not already connected to your network, but for those units already on your net they can serve as a replacement or additional remote. Versions of the app are available for both Android and iOS.
