Backdrops not showing linked Google Photo Album

Roku IS linked to Google photos. The google album is appearing as "connected" when I'm logged in to my Roku account on desktop. "Linked from Google Photos. 95 photos"

But it not showing up in Backdrops on the TV

1. I reset the Roku system.
2. checked for software updates
3. Roku on TCL TV
4. restarted the TV several times
5. Scanned the QR code several times to try to confirm link

Any ideas?

I have same issue. I am logged in on my Yahoo  email account and I used the scan code to load my Google pictures.

        Hi Community users,

Thanks for keeping us posted, and welcome to the Roku Community!

We want to gather additional details to investigate this issue more thoroughly. Can you please provide the following information below?

        • Do you see "My photos" when scrolling to the bottom while in the Backdrops app? You should show it there if you can see the photo or album you chose to upload via Google Photos.
        • If you can't see it, could you send us a photo under "My Albums"?

In the meantime, you may try these steps below:

        1. Go to the Backdrops App > Connect Google Photos

        2. Select Upload photos

        3. Scan the QR code from your mobile device and follow the onscreen instructions.

        4. Use your Roku.com account to sign into backdrops.roku.com

You may also want to check out this support article on how to use backdrops on your Roku streaming devices.

        We'll wait for your response.

        Thanks,
        John

still does not display personal photos.  when will this be fixed?

  • Update:  This worked for just under a week.  I've resorted to streaming the photos directly from my phone for the time being.

(originally) I figured this out, this morning, at least for me.  I'll post here in case it helps anyone else.

Mine worked fine until about the first or second week in November.

The Google Photo Album must have 'Link Sharing' turned on.  I'm not sure what changed from the time that I set this up to when it failed, but I turned on the 'Link Sharing' feature on one album, and suddenly they all populated again in the Roku Backdrops site.

To be more specific, I went into the Google Photos Album online at the Google Photos site.  I clicked in the top right corner of the album and selected 'options'.  I turned on link sharing, but unchecked a couple of boxes about other people adding photos and whatnot.  I did NOT need to share the link with anyone for this to work.

On the Roku webpage (where the Backdrops QR code takes you) the images were suddenly visible again.

On the Roku TV, I had to go in and out of Backdrops once for it to repopulate with the albums.  I had unlinked them previously as I was troubleshooting.

This makes sense but it didn't work for me.

Tried the fix suggested but didn't work for me either. Nothing shows of any of my uploads.

I'm having this same issue. I have two different Roku devices and it's the same for both (no pictures showing up). When I go to https://backdrops.roku.com/streams the albums are available to select but the pictures don't show up at all. It's like the link between Roku and Google is not valid and Google is rejecting it.

Has this been solved for anyone?
