Same issue still.
Roku TV, Shockz openrun pro2.
Use private listening from my Google pixel 7pro - choppy and unusable. Never had issues until last couple months.
Use private listening from my Samsung galaxy tab s10 ultra, works fine.
Sounds almost like a bit rate issue streaming via Bluetooth to me.

After some more testing it's not Bluetooth related, it's WiFi. TV was connected to my 2.4ghz SSID and my phone connected to my 5ghz SSID, with both on 2.4ghz the private listening works 100%.
So if your router supports dual banding, especially if not merged, check this as perhaps your router isn't handling band steering very well. If your router or WiFi network merges the frequencies, try separating them and check that all devices are on the same one.
If you use any kind of WiFi extenders in your home, make sure the devices are all connected to the same access point.

It is not as easy as the Wi-Fi network being used. Many users have discussed this problem in the past. I do see how ROKU was quick to answer your comment as a fix and ignore many customers still having the issue. All my devices have been tried using both Wi-Fi frequencies with the problem continuing. All devices were placed on the same frequency and the problem still reoccurred. Router was set to transmit only one frequency and the problem persisted. Sometimes it takes a little longer but at some point, the audio still starts breaking up. Private listening was tried on many different devices with the same broken audio appearing on them all. Still waiting for ROKU to issue a fix to the problem identified by many users. Will also continue not to use any new Roku products until the issue is fixed.

Please don't take my post as a definitive solution, it's far from that.
I came across this forum whilst troubleshooting my issue and trying the various other suggestions on here. This was simply what solved the issue for my phone using the feature recently. Take this as a simple troubleshooting step like all the other posts here with some success.
Roku very much still need to provide a fix or solution to the still ongoing issue. If they can't solve the problem with the software, then they need to announce it and move to having Bluetooth cards put into their future streaming sticks and TVs so people can connect audio devices directly rather than bridging audio through end user devices which they have no control or sight of, then disable and abandon the feature with current models within the app.
