I personally stay away from budget level TVs (TCL, Onn, Hisense) because they tend to use subpar components that don't last. I would suggest getting a known brand name that has basic smart features or none and all and get a Roku device or another streaming device and connect to the TV. Less problems and if the device breaks it is cheaper and easier to replace.
So, do Roku TVs tend to have more problems than just a basic TV? I was pretty new to the whole "smart" TV thing when I got this one, but knew the program abilities of the Roku appealed to me. If the TV is more reliable without the built in Roku, I would definitely look into going with the add on device.
Well, I can't personally say that they do, but I am pretty sure that Roku does not manufacture its own TVs and that it is dependent on what manufacture they use to make them. When a TV costs only a couple hundred dollars of any brand, they are either very old models, basic ones or new models with components whose quality is questionable. You may get one to last a long time and you may get one that will last a week, that is usually the downside to cheaper TVs. There are only about 5 manufacturers of the screens, but it is usually the other components like the control board that tend to be problems, due to the widely varying quality of the parts.
