Smart Home App not controlling Plugs on/off

I trying uninstall and reinstall the app.  Worked for a day then stopped working.  We have android phones and the app won’t turn plugs on/ off.  Tried resetting the plugs.  What else is there to try?

    Hey everyone,

We're aware of reports that the Roku Smart Home Plug wasn’t working with the Roku Smart app.

Status update: This should be fixed in the latest app version (3.2.4)!
Please update your app and check if your Roku Smart Home Plug has the latest firmware.

Let us know if it’s working for you! If you don’t see the update yet, give it a little time and try again later.

    Thanks for hanging in there!

Google home, it never fails, just create a home then link your Roku account to your Google account and voila!!

I just tried this. My app still doesn't work for my smart plugs or doorbell camera.

I don't know what google home is.  I want to be able to control the plugs when I am away, to make it look like I am home.  Lights on, lights off.

        Hi,

Short explanation: Google home is an app that can control (turn on/off) your Roku smart devices (plugs, lights, cams etc.) Like the Roku app does. As we all know by now, the Android Roku app in on the fritz since the last upgrade. Google home is a nice alternative until the folks at Roku fix the app.

So in order for Google home to work with your Roku devices, they have to be setup in the Roku app first. So if your devices are setup in the Roku app but non responsive, you can use Google home to control them, but if your devices are not setup in Roku,  you cannot use Google home.

For Google home: chances are it is already installed on your phone, if not go to the playstore ,search for Google home and install it. Then open it, create a home, then link your Roku account to your Google account, your devices will automatically be in the "devices " tab in Google home where you can turn them on or off.

        Hope this helps...

No error message.  App on my phone does not turn the plugs on or off.  I cannot adjust the schedule. Android Samsung s24 phone

  • I'm having the same problem. On my Samsung s24 Ultra, my devices will say failed to connect and you cannot add or delete lights or anything. After reinstall everything works for a day or so. The cycle has been repeating since the start of the year 2025 for me.

I have the same phone S24 Ultra.  Same problem.  Meanwhile I discovered my OLD S10+ works the lights fine.  Very weird.  Been using an old ipad and that also works fine.

30MAR2025: I have the same problem with this Roku Smart Home App.

I am experiencing the same issue with the Roku Smart Home App. For weeks now, the app has not been able to control the plugs' on/off functionality. I have it installed on my latest Pixel 9, and I've noticed that others are reporting similar problems on the Android app page.

I have had to uninstall the app, restart my phone, and reinstall it multiple times a day just to make it work. I've also deleted and re-added rules and schedules, but there has been no improvement in the app's performance.

Even today, the Smart Home App is still unable to control any bulbs, and I'm unable to change the brightness level without it. It's frustrating that with all this technology, I end up relying on flashlights and lamps in my house.

I’m wondering where Roku's DevOps team is in all of this. It can't be that difficult to resolve the communication issues between the app and the devices, or whatever else is causing these problems.

Roku Support, please escalate this issue with your DevOps team if not already. Alternatively, it would be helpful to provide a web application to manage bulbs, rules, and schedules if the app continues to malfunction.

    Thank you.

UPDATE: I attempted SergeB recommended Google Home method. Overall it WORKS. It's a bit humbug to set up, BUT I will use Google Home rather than deal with Roku's Smart Home app tantrums in the meantime.

      Thanks.

Glad it works for you too. By the way, if you want to control the brightness of your bulbs with Google home, press and hold the light for a second or two, it will open a new screen where you can control the brightness.

So tap for on and off, tap and hold for brightness or shade.
