YouTube TV playback issue

So you closed a discussion on Roku no longer working properly with YouTube tv, by blaming it on YouTube, IN SPITE OF irrefutable proof that the problem is with Roku Express no longer working.

NOTHING that YouTube tv does will change the fact that ROKU is the problem. And the worst part is that people with a ROKU tv are really screwed because they’ll have to buy a new tv to get YouTube tv working again!

I will be providing YouTube tv support with ALL of my reports, research and fixes, showing them that it is NOT their issue, it’s Roku’s.

Thanks for Nothing!

  • Even if you have a Roku TV or some other "Smart TV" you can still attach whatever streaming device(s) you like.

That doesn’t excuse the fact that it is the Roku express that can no longer handle upgrades YouTube Tv made to their platform.

Rather than Roku taking responsibility for an inferior product, they passed it on to YouTube TV. For weeks I have told you that replacing the Roku express with a better model would solve the problem, WHICH IT DOES.

Meaning it is Rokus issue. But rather than say, “yes you’re right, the Roku express isn’t powerful enough anymore”, you’re telling us to contact YouTube tv. To what end? Is YouTube going to DOWNGRADE its app so your bottom end device will run it? NO they aren’t.

So instead of doing the right thing and replacing our Rokus with better ones AND putting out a notice letting future buyers know the Express won’t run YouTube tv, you do nothing.

Not even a discount coupon! And t make matters worse, you’re saying to those who bought a Roku tv to “just use another streaming stick”.

Wow, what a stand up company. NOT! Not everyone can shell out 50-60.00 for a new upgraded Roku. I hope everyone affected by this tells everyone else about the Roku customer service, so they don’t get screwed over too.

I know I’ll be sure to let all my social media accounts know about it.

"That doesn’t excuse the fact that it is the Roku express that can no longer handle upgrades YouTube Tv made to their platform."

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Once Roku has released a piece of hardware, it's on the app developers to ensure their app works on that device, or else they let their customers know that they no longer support that device. There are many older Roku devices that apps no longer officially support. You haven't stated which model Roku Express you have (there's 9 different versions starting nine years ago), so we don't know exactly what model you are referring to.

One thing I will say is Google doesn't care about supporting older devices. The very first app that was unusable on my original Roku 2 XS was YouTube, and at the time the player was less than three years old. Google writes their apps for the latest hardware, and really doesn't care if older devices no longer work correctly.

  • It's up to YouTube TV to make their apps have whatever functionality they want on whatever platforms they want.

Told me?  Honestly, I don't even know what this is about.

But, like I said, you can hook whatever streaming sources you want to whatever TV you happen to have.  No need to feel trapped by a smart TV (though I still continue to think that dumb TVs are better.)
