Unauthorized subscription for apps

Why does Roko keep signing me up for things I don't watch, such as Roku French TV?  I don't speak French. I have never used it.  I spoke with someone last summer from Roku (Try tracking down a living person... that took some time) and they would not return the fee charged, but told me it would not renew, but yet again it has.

Now I have an email telling me that I am paying for Roku BET.  Again, I didn't load it, I have not watched it, yet I am being charged for it.

Where is Roku based?  Do I complain to that state's Att. General or mine?

Getting really tired of Roku.

Thanks for getting back! Please note that you can't remove your France app or any app under The Roku Channel even if you no longer have a subscription because it's not a standalone app. At the same time, we don't have an option to hide it.

Additionally, the Roku PIN can help you avoid unauthorized purchases. It allows you to control what can be purchased or what apps can be added to your Roku streaming device using your Roku account.

Thank you for your understanding. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • It is possible you or someone in your household accidently purchased the subscription.  I suggest putting a pin number in to avoid accidental or not authorized subscriptions.  Also, if you don't pay for any subscriptions, you can remove your payment method altogether.

Go into your Roku account and manage subscriptions and you should be able to cancel.

If not, contact Roku customer support.  Accounts/billing and you be able to get an option to talk with someone from support

They show up as "Free Trials" lower in the apps than where I normally look, and after a period, they auto-subscribe.  I like the idea of removing my billing information.  I do have things I legitimately subscribe to, but at this point, I would rather just not subscribe to any Roku things than to constantly search through my apps for weird Roku channels.

I also don't like how I can't remove things like Roku French TV while it is "active," even though I never activated it and don't want it.  I was told I had to wait until the subscription lapsed, which was months later, then I could remove it.  But the it did renew even though I was told it would not, and now I can't remove it until next year.  Two years, nearly $150 paid for something I never signed up for and dont want.

Soooo frustrated with Roku.  I think you are right.  Time to remove my payment information and cut all ties with Roku.

        Hey, NotHappyAgain

I understand that you are having issues with the charges from those apps that you are not using.

To avoid unauthorized subscription, you can create a PIN for your Roku account to restrict app subscriptions. You can also cancel your subscription to avoid future charges. Check the links for instructions on creating a PIN and canceling a subscription.

        Hope it helps!
