Sling App can’t access DVR data

I’m having an issue today with the sling app on both my Roku TV and streaming stick. I try to access recordings, and it comes back “no data available”. This is for both sling paid DVR storage and air TV local channel recordings. When I access these on the sling app on my phone, all recordings are there and play just fine. The Sling TV app version on Roku is 8.19 build 1924. Please fix this issue.

  • I'm having the exact same issue, just started today for me. Sling DVR recordings and antenna recordings giving no data available error and content isn't available. Clearly it isn't just you.

  • I noticed the same problem on 2/24 about 1:30 AM central time. Both my Roku Ultras have this problem. When I realized the issue hadn't resolved this afternoon, I chatted with Roku, which was pretty unhelpful. They suggested I contact Sling, which I did. The customer service rep I spoke to at Sling said this was the second call he got about this issue today and he "escalated" the issue to the programming department just as he did the other call. He didn't have a solution either, just said to keep checking back and see if there's an update to the app. Very frustrated over here but glad to see I'm not the only one affected.

If there's an issue with the app, then the app developer would be the ones to handle that. Roku doesn't build the apps, just like Apple, Google, and Amazon don't build the apps that run on their platforms. Sling (owned by Dish Network) built the app.

But, it's probably not the app. It might be, but if the app in and of itself was the issue, a lot of the 2.5 million Sling TV users would be experiencing this. To be sure, not all 2.5 million are Roku users, but Roku is the largest platform, so the number would not be a small one.

So, it's probably something going wonky with your app. Whether it's some stray data, or something else, we should start there.

    1. Remove the app
    2. Reboot the Roku
    3. Reinstall the app

All three steps, and in that exact order. Then, log in, see if it's working. Don't launch other apps, focus on this one for now. Is it working?

I contacted Sling and they are looking into it. It’s just the Sling app on Roku devices. I have unplugged, reset, uninstalled/reinstalled, and done other troubleshooting in a variety of different configurations, and still no dice.

I have the same issue.  Some content works and the others show no data available.  It worked last night but not today.  Please resolve this.  This is the second time this has happened.  Are the updates tested before going live?

I have the same DVR problem with my all my Roku's. The DVR recordings do work on my Android phone, Samsung TV and PC app.

  • Yes, same thing happened today.  Cannot access OTA or sling cloud DVR events.  Tried to chat with sling and IT WAS COMPLETELY USELESS.  So frustrating.  Interesting though, while I was attempting to get a coherent answer from the chat agent I started recording a movie.  After about 20 minutes I went back to access it in the DVR menu and I was able to watch it from the beginning.  But still can't access anything else.  "no data available"

How were you able to actually get a chat agent? I've tried and cannot!

  • Same problem here. Can play recordings on iPad and stream to tv but Roku sling app says “no data available “

  • Same problem, but it is only with recordings that are episodes. I am able to access any movies on my DVR, but any kind of series that has episodes all day no data available. Phone app does fine. Hope there is a fix soon!

  • Update - The Sling app on my Samsung Smart TV DVR works just fine, but not on my Roku.

I have 1 LG smart TV. Sling works fine. I have 1 LG Roku TV and that's the one that doesn't work

Are you wanting to record OTA or regular cable channels ?  Also did you sign up for the DVR when you requested the subscription?

I'm trying to record cable channels and I don't have to signup for dvr service as it's free. There is only a cost if you want more hours.

There is no option to record. Tried on 5 diffrent devices with no luck. The only option is to watch channel and from iv seen the record option should be right next to it.

        Thank you
