Removing Ads on Home Screen

Hi, why am I seeing ads on home screen? I didn't buy giant billboard here if the ads are showing with in apps sure but even on Home Screen ?

    Hey everyone,

    Want more control over the ads you see on your Roku Home Screen?

    Here's how to customize your experience:

    • Hide specific ads:

      • Select the ad with your remote.
      • Press the * button.
      • Select "Hide this ad."

    • Limit ad categories:

      • Go to Settings > Privacy > Advertising.
      • Select "Sensitive ad content."
      • Choose the categories you want to limit.

I see "solutions" to the question on removing ads from the Roku home screen.  All these "solutions" involve selecting preferences for TYPES of ads.  But what if my preference is to see NO ADS ABOUT ANYTHING?  Now, get this.  I'm serious.  I would be willing to PAY a monthly FEE, if it guarantees I will see NO advertising whatsoever on my home screen. That includes taking over the entire home screen, theme and wallpaper!  No banner ads, no videos.  No ads!

    I so sick of ads, everything forces them on us whether we like it or not. Roku is increasing its ads and forcing them on us. I am now having to go into my Home Screen settings to remove menu items on the Home Screen, just turned off menu item “Agatha all along”. I have turned off Agatha all along, live tv, sports, featured free, what to watch, daily trivia, along with numerous other ones that pop in there, next week will be something else. So bloated! So, now there are three places they are forcing them on us. I would also pay a monthly fee to be ad free. I personally feel we should not have to but Roku has turned greedy and has to pay those CEOs. Wanted to get my two cents in here as I am already looking for a different solution also. Please stop forcing this stuff on us. Offer a subscription to remove ALL ADS! And I may stick around.

    If you don’t want to see ad’s on the Home Screen, ditch the Roku and buy an AppleTV. No ads on the Home Screen.

      I appreciate your feedback. As @RokuCarly mentioned, you can hide certain ad types and replace them with an alternative ad to remove those ads from your home screen.

      Here are the instructions for doing so: Highlight the channel tile, press the star (*) button on your remote, select Hide this ad, and press OK.

      Please understand, I'm not talking about commercials that appear during programming.  I'm talking specifically about the banner ads, the text-with-still photo ads that appear on the HOME SCREEN.  I'm not referring to streaming.  I'll pay a (reasonable) fee to have an ad-free home screen.  Thanks.

        I am here because we bought the AD FREE Roku stick a few years ago and suddenly are now seeing ads!  WE PAID MORE for this version, specifically!  We should NOT be seeing any banner ads at all on this Roku and I need it fixed immediately.  Maybe you bought the version that was cheaper but showed ads?

      This "feature", aka "no ads on the home screen," was available when I bought my TV, and when I bought my Roku streaming device.

      My TV is making me sit through an add as soon as I turn it on. I can't press any buttons or exit out of the add until it's over. I don't even use any apps on the home screen. I always immediately turn it to hdmi for my Xbox. This is really frustrating. I should not be forced to sit through an add to use a TV. I hope this doesn't become permanent. I will throw this TV in the trash so quick istg.

        Allie4012, that would be new and one more reason to never use a "smart" TV connected to the Internet (keep it dumb and use a separate streaming device).  Does it happen if you set the TV to always power on to the Xbox's HDMI input under Settings->System->Power?

    Seriously. I paid nearly $100 for a Roku Ultra 4K. Forget this. I'm returning it and buying an Apple TV. It's nuts that they force this on you for something that you paid for. It's not like this is the Roku Channel. This is the home screen of a device I paid serious money for. If this is what Roku thinks of PAYING customers, they can kiss off!
