NFL Not Using Cable Authentication

I tried using the NFL app to stream Red Zone and various in market games yesterday. Nothing worked. The games said "Fumble" and had a generic error message. The Red Zone and NFL Network required a cable subscription with access to those channels.

I'm logged in with my Fios credentials, and my subscription has both of those channels. I logged out and logged back in and it didn't work. I tried multiple Rokus with no luck. It worked fine on my iPad. So it seems I've isolated this to the NFL Roku Channel. I tried again this morning to watch NFL Network and it's still the same issue.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Roku tells you the website NFL says to go to to authenticate your subscription.  You tell NFL which TV provider account you have and you enter your credentials for that provider.  The provider verifies your account and either confirms or denies that your account with them provides access to that channel.

If the process fails, it is something that must be ironed out between NFL and Fios.  Roku can only honor NFL's decision, either way.

It's only the NFL Channel on Roku that isn't authenticating. The NFL app on iOS authenticates fine with my FIOS credentials. This seems to be a recurring theme in week 1 for the NFL Roku channel, though usually it resolves by halftime of the early games.

Same issue for me. Pissing me off. Have you figured out any way to fix this?

  • I subscribe to Redzone on my cable provider. Forgot to mention: before I had the cable authentication issue (I would have posted photos of the issue but this subreddit doesn't allow images) I was getting a 403 error.

  • RokuERey any update? I am signed in through TV Provider (Verizon Fios) but cannot access any games on NFL roku channel nor can I access NFL Redzone (which I pay through my TV provider).

When I try to watch a game, it tells me I need to sign in with a TV Provider that has access to Fox or CBS. My TV provider does in fact have access to Fox and CBS.

  • I am having the same issue with the Dish authentication.  The NFL app is **bleep**. Every year there is an issue and I have to watch on my computer at least 2 or 3 weekends. Now I can’t watch the Saturday games because it won’t authenticate my cable subscription.

  • I’m having the same issue and it turns out my sister and parents as well. This is extremely frustrating. This is the one thing I want to use my Roku for and I end up having to watch on my phone. Please fix this!

Jumping in here as well. As of December 24 9:30 PM EST I signed into the Roku NFL app with my Optimum credentials and it will not let me access the New England - Denver game on right now. I can watch it on my cable subscription but not via the Roku app.

Who cares less - nfl or Roku? Somehow the geniuses who program the AppleTV app have figured this out. Too much for the Roku brain trust?
