Inappropriate ads preferences not sufficient, need rating based option

Hi Roku Team, I have young children at home and am concerned about the violent/sexual content that is appearing on the home screen advertisements, especially now that clips are playing in addition to still images for the advertisements. I followed the instructions on the forums to attempt to manage advertisement preferences, by selecting, less violent, mature/sexual content, or horror, but have still had horror films/violent advertisements pop up.

I understand that what is violent may be viewed as subjective, but I think most of us would agree that a three-year-old doesn’t need to be watching alien versus predator on the home screen.

For concerned parents, just having a “less horror” setting is not sufficient.  There needs to be a setting to limit content by rating (PG, PG-13 etc). If I can’t trust that R rated films aren’t going to be playing clips on the home screen when trying to pull up kids shows for our children then we are definitely moving on from Roku.

I appreciate any steps your team can take to help create settings that will make your devices safe for families.

    Hey there!

Thanks for letting us know about this. We take this feedback seriously, and I’ve shared it with the right team for review. I’ll keep this thread updated if there’s any update.

    Thanks again!

  • The catch is that even when you manage ad preferences to request “less” content that is violent etc, advertisements for shows that are PG13/R will still occasionally show up. Especially now that Roku ads on the home screen are including video, as a parent of very young children who are staring at the screen as it comes on, if I can’t trust that the ads are PG or better I’m moving on from Roku.
