65R625, no Atmos from Vudu app when connected to a Denon AVR-x2700H

I can not get my 65R625 TCL tv to pass through Dolby Atmos to my Denon avr-x2700H via earc for the Vudu App.  Netflix, Disney plus, Amazon, HBO Max all will pass through atmos just fine through earc to the Denon and sound great.  Just not Vudu.  I have reached out to Vudu and they said it was a tv issue, I reached out to TCL and they said it is an app issue.  So now I am reaching out to you to see you can figure this out.  Now when I turn CEC off and just use the tv speakers then the Vudu app will pass the atmos track through the tv speakers no problem.  I even bought a $90 HDMI cable to make sure that was not the issue and that still did not fix anything.

I truly believe it is an issue with the Roku software or firmware that drives the CEC pass through.  I think the Vudu app may have a bad code or something that the CEC earc just can not recognize.

  • You didnt mention your Roku's firmware version (Settings/System/About) or Vudu app version (highlight the app and press Options (*) on the remote).

    Try reinstalling Vudu:

    1) Remove the Vudu app (Highlight the app, press the Options (*) button on the remote, then Remove)

    2) RESTART the Roku (Settings/System/Power/System restart/Restart) <-- MUST DO THIS HERE!!!

    3) Re-install the Vudu app

(If you dont restart, settings/cached data associated with the app are left behind and it wont be a clean re-install)

65R625, no Atmos from Vudu app when connected to a Denon AVR-x2700H & AVR-x3500H?

The re-install of Vudu app did not work, does anybody know when this will be fixed? I have purchased several Vudu movies and want my Atmos back working PLEASE!

Not sure when it will get fixed. I have had issues for months now. I am thinking if more people complain then maybe roku may take a look at it.

  • So still nothing on this? I'm dealing with same issue. I get Atmos from Netflix, Disney+ and others, but Vudu is a no-go, even when it says it's playing in Atmos in the app.

I was finally able to get it to work by buying the new Roku 4K+ stick and using one of the HDMI ports on the Denon instead of one of the TCL tv ports and it now plays Dolby Atmos on the Vudu app.  That is why I am still a believer that something is wrong with the Vudu app and the firmware for the TCL tv.

This is a bug between the Vudu app and Roku TV 100%! This is pathetic service, everyone here and Vudu just point the finger at the other guy and blame it all on them.

FIX IT PLEASE! YOU HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME BY NOW!

  • Also cannot make this work, similar setup to jimbsparks, including same TV model, and a Denon A/V unit. If my collection is on Vudu, this nullifies my audio setup. Very frustrating. If it works with other apps/channels, feels like it's just laziness to leave it broken.

shwanyboy, the solution that worked for me was to get the latest 4k Roku stick and plug it into the Denon. That way the audio hits the Denon directly. Vudu now plays Dolby atmos sound with no problem. I gave up on trying to get the tv to push the atmos track but will not work, I am a firm believer that it is both a firmware and an app issue on the tv. Both TCL and Vudu and Roku just do not care to even research it the issue.

  • I found a solution to the UHD streaming on Vudu and 4k content on Amazon prime. I was also not able to get my receiver to output a Dolby Atmos stream. My system consist of a NVIDIA shield, Pioneer VSX-LX505 in 7.1.4 configuration and a Epson Home Cinema 4k 4040. I bought a EZCOO splitter and down scaler from Amazon. I got it connected and split one output to the receiver and the other output scaled down to 1080 to my Epson projector. that particular setup worked, I finally got my receiver to display it was processing Dolby Atmos. The only problem was my output to my projector did look as good as before, so of course I was very disappointed. I didnt wanted to sacrifice my pho 4k image just to get dolby atmos audio encoding. But then I had an idea to try something. Instead of connecting the second output of the ezcoo spillter to my projector, I connect my projector back to the output of my receiver. And whattttt do you know, I still had dolby atmos and my projector said if was displaying HDr10 when I was playing UHD content. It looked great and the little splitter only cost $30 on Amazon.
