Getting an error 004 message.
I am forced to update with no other options-only to clink OK to Update
Gets to 82% and then goes to a blank screen-I cannot get the software level info or anything. I have hard-booted several times over several days-checked the internet connect, etc. (which is fine)-and nothing. Do I need purchase a new Roku device?

Having same issue, but can’t give you the device information because it’s a blank screen, and you can’t get to the settings menu or any other menu on the screen. I’ve done all resets and nothing works. Internet is working perfectly fine, no network issues. Does Roku not support older devices after a certain point sending them in an endless un- updatable loop?

I can't get to settings because everything is locked up. Any ideas?
Update: Factory Reset fixed all my issues. Thanks!

Here's what worked for me, w/o doing a factory reset:
1. Power cycled (unplugged) Roku after getting the frozen blank screen after failed update (been doing this the last few days).
2. Went to secret menu and did a software update (this seemed to update some of the channels/apps). To get to said menu: 5x Home button, 3x >>, 2x <<.
3. Then updated software from regular System menu. This worked and Roku reset itself to complete updates.
4. Final updates FAILED. But, I selected RETRY and then it worked. Power cycled Roku and checked for updates again to make sure.
Good luck out there in steaming land!

Does a factory reset wipe out all channels?

I would try a soft reset before opting for a full one. I did a soft reset and it left most of the channels and apps intact. It appeared to remove a few but everything I used remained. However it did require a new log in for youtube, but otherwise it was relatively painless experience.
