I tried the system restart and the back button still does not work

Some have suggested needing to repeat the restart process again. For some the issue was resolved after a 3rd restart. Might work for you. Also if you use the search option to find and get to your app instead of going in via the home page the back button then seems to work again in these specific cases. Netflix, Prime and a few other apps do still seem to work while other apps are not when accessed via the home screen. A few system restarts might do the trick.
