Yeah, this has been come very annoying. I’m constantly turning off closed captions across various apps daily.

BIG button, simple remote for Roku Streaming stick (not TV) for an Elderly person with dementia

I moved Mom's TV subscription to Sling so everything is on Roku—for me, the remote is so simple I can use it in the dark. My poor mom is confused by it and has trouble with small buttons. I found EZclicker in Amazon. Looks like a good solution, but it is only for Roku TVs. 😕 PLEASE, Roku, make something for (cognitively-impacted) seniors OR fix your licensing so that 3rd party companies can make remotes for your devices.

Links to a show on TV

So my mother-in-law is 78 years old. We got her Internet and YouTube TV as it was cheaper than cable. She knows how to use that pretty well but is afraid to use any other streaming services. So I had a thought. Is there anyway for me to be able to send her a link to a Netflix show or Hulu or which ever one. That way she could click on the link and it would take her straight to it

    Suggestion for Backdrops

I’m really liking the Backdrops app. When you press up or down on the remote directional button, information will appear onscreen. My suggestion is you should be able to control what info appears. I like the info about the current picture that appears at the bottom, especially if the image is of a work of art. I would keep it on all the time. I could do without the info that appears at the top such as “image duration” and “* for options”. That’s information that can be found in settings and just clutters the screen.

    Ethernet Ports on Future Products

I have 6 Roku devices and 5 are Ultras because they have an ethernet port. Please continue to have a product in your lineup that includes an ethernet option. I only want to use a hard-wired connection whenever possible for streaming television. I only use wi-fi for mobile devices and 1 TV and I want to keep it that way.

Parental Controls screen time on Roku?

Many parents on this community keep asking for better parental controls, but Roku just says they don’t have that capability versus making it available. There is still no function to control screen time on our kids. I should be able to have my kids tv turn off after a period of time (5 hours if I choose), where they cannot access any apps without a pin after that time period. If I only want the tv accessible between the hours of 5pm-9pm…and not accessible before then (because it’s homework time or whatever the case) then I feel we should be able to control their screen time. As many class action lawsuits that are out there about kids and screen time….I’m surprised Roku isn’t actually looking further into these options and concerns from parents….just saying. Nearly every device you buy now and days have advanced parental controls…I guess ROKU needs some catching up to do, versus other electronics and devices.

    Suggestion: Roku Remote lock feature

I believe a lock function on remote controls could significantly enhance the user experience for many households. I’d love to see a remote lock feature as a physical button on Roku remotes. The goal is to prevent accidental button presses when someone is lying in bed or on the couch and unintentionally rolls over the remote. It’s a common scenario that leads to channels changing, apps closing, or playback being disrupted, all by mistake. A lock function would be especially helpful in families with young children, pets, or in shared living situations. It would provide peace of mind and make the viewing experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Roku TV is spontaneously running ads

This has happened multiple times - my wife and I will be watching TV in bed, finish the show/movie, return to the Roku home screen, turn off the TV and start going to sleep. Then, all of a sudden, flash and sound, and a #&&#@$# ad starts playing. We return to home screen, turn the TV back off, head back to sleep when BAM it happens again. The ads have so far all been for Roku Channel stuff or the then current heavily sponsored ads on Roku. It seems to be correlated to when I had earlier used my phone for remote listening from that Roku, but I've always been exited from the app. As an experiment the most recent time I turned off the TV twice, ads brought it back both times, then I force-quit the Roku app on my phone and it didn't recur. So I have one instance where force quitting the app on my phone made it stop. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this incredibly frustrating and disturbing behavior and/or if there's a way to prevent it.

Will the Roku TV get a DVR device?

I was wondering with all other streaming out there will roku get a DVR device to record shows so u don't have to wait 3 to 5 months for it to come back around on a restart on some shows or at least think about getting it
