It's very frustrating pause a show (or rewind and pause) to view details and the screen grays out enough that between that and the graphics you can't see whatever it is that you paused to see. It worked that way when I was using Roku Ultra and it works that way on my Roku TV. There are times when this feature sucks most of the fun out of watching something. My DISH network doesn't work that way, but I have those issues with Amazon Prime, BritBox and Hulu. I haven't looked elsewhere to see how widespread it is.
I don't use any of those apps, but the normal behavior when you pause a video is to put a translucent overlay/shadow over the screen's top and bottom, show the title in the upper left, the clock in the upper right, and a progress bar at the bottom. The "dimming"/overlay is so that the text and progress bar will be visible over the paused video. It all disappears after about five seconds. That's the default behavior built into the default video player. Some apps seem to have their own idea about how things should work, so if they're not removing everything so that the paused video can be clearly seen, you might want to contact them.
Be happy you're not seeing an ad obscuring the screen when you pause. Apparently that's something Roku has experimented with. 🙄
Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with those things where the grey out goes away. Not so here, with BritBox, not even after 15 seconds, so presumably never. I'll test Amazon and Hulu as well and try submitting something to the sites that do it. It's very annoying.
