Using the Roku Media player application on my TCL 55R615 Roku TV (Roku model 7120X), I can play Dolby Vision (profile 5, 7, and 😎 enabled videos in MP4 containers.
I cannot play Dolby Vision media in Matroska (MKV) containers. Dolby Vision profiles 7 and 8 revert to the HDR10 fallback, and I'll get the purple hue on profile 5.
I tried using Plex, but I get the same result.
My question is: When will the Roku OS natively support Dolby Vision in Matroska (MKV) containers?
Roku rarely (well, never) answers questions like that and streaming one's personal collection is very, very low on their list of priorities. If none of the big boys (i.e., Netflix) is using it then they probably don't care at all. If streaming your own collection is your main focus then you'd be wise to look at other alternatives and avoid the frustrations that come with using a Roku device for that purpose.
I mean, its not the end of the world. I was just posing the question. Who knows, it might be an easy fix that they'll include in the next update.
It could be and you never know with Roku, but I'm just saying don't hold your breath.
