Re: Getting error HDCP 2.2 in Roku Ultra
- Splitter Hardware doesn’t block Roku.
hardware reports back to media on Roku through HDMI cable.
HDCP is a conversation between media that just happens to be played on Roku - asking questions of the next hardware - at other end of HDMI Cable. Questions are communications between media on Roku, going through HDMI cable to the hardware at end of cable. It just goes through Roku. The media on Roku reacts to the answer from the hardware that follows.
Conversation goes something along the line of this:
”Hello next device! What are you, and what HDCP do you support?”
if it answers: “Samsung Display HDCP 2.2,” That answer is acceptable - so the media video continues!”
If it Doesn’t Answer at all: Fail! Video doesn’t play!
But: let’s say it answers: “Panasonic HDCP 1.4”. It will fail, because though Panasonic is supported, HDCP 1.4 IS NOT! Video then fails to play
let’s say it Answers: “Camera Capture System HDCP 2.2”. It will Also fail, because Camera Capture System are not supported, even if 2.2!! Video fails to play!
So ONLY if communication ends up with a “known acceptable answer”, will video continues! This allows for the Media to determine how picky it wants to be, allowing for more variables in a successful playing of that media! Any mis communication at all will result in a failure!! It’s the MEDIA that’s attempting to be played back that determines what happens: NOT ROKU!
so it could be the problem you are experiencing is the device ROKU IS FEEDING!!! That’s what it was: Not the Roku, but the device the Roku fed…. One some, but not All videos! That’s was my issue!😳
If you thought Roku support was avoiding the issue, imagine contacting Another MFG’s Support saying they are breaking a device IN FRONT OF THEIRS with communications via the HDMI cable!! JUST IMAGINE THEIR RESPONSE!!! 😱😳
Like I said: “Continue fighting/creating stomach acid, or “fix it!”
So: Don’t Blame Roku, Blame “HDMI Consortium”!

Re: Getting error HDCP 2.2 in Roku Ultra
My fix has been each time the HDCP error pops up I just reboot the Roku & it works for a few days - annoying, but I can live with that. The error message has never popped up during anything I am watching, only at the very beginning.

Re: Getting error HDCP 2.2 in Roku Ultra
It will always fail at first, that’s when the communications occur. I have also seen it shows with intermission, on first video after Intermission video. . Depends on how picky the owner wants to be…. It is programmable by the Owners of the Video!
I saw it repetitively on 2 sites, and a couple others randomly, but always in beginning. I’m guessing that the random nature was due to Owner not programming it then. That was repeatable, too!
have not seen it once since the HDMI Splitter, even when intentionally looking for it. Nor would I expect to see a failure. That is THE FIX!
As mentioned before, it was the Panasonic that was failing, NOT ROKU.. If I bypassed PANASONIC (RXV-479) and went straight to Samsung (RU8000), I didn’t see the error! I tested every HDMI cable, up to 45’ with the site that always failed. Every cable failed! EVERY ONE, old, new, 4K HDCP 2.2, it didn’t matter!
I then tested every HDMI Cable-twice more: in between ROKU & Splitter, All Passed, and on a 4K Video server with video that DID NOT HAVE HDCP encoding at all! And — no problems with ANY HDMI CABLE, no matter how old or New!
Again, failure was 100% repeatable as a failure Roku to Panasonic to Samsung, but with path as: ROKU TO SPLITTER TO PANASONIC TO SAMSUNG…… with same playback as before that Failed 100%, NOW PASSES 100%!!!
I think I payed $20-$22 and splitter gets power from Samsung USB on power up.
Done! Just like issues at TV Stations years ago with Blue Ray Discs and HDCP V1.4..
Fixed! HDCP V1.4 Issue fixed by a V1.4 Splitter; HDCP V2.2 Issue fixed by a V2.2 Splitter!
