I decided to check with Chat GPT, and it states,
"Roku forums and other tech support forums have thousands of complaints regarding "Error 020," suggesting that this is a fairly widespread problem."
It also goes on to provide several pages of possible problems and solutions. I don't want to dump all that information here, but maybe you can provide information related to your specific devices to Chat GPT.
I got a kick out of one of the final suggestions: "Try a different streaming device."
I did that actually, with a Fire Cube. It works flawlessly with the same cables and connections that are problematic with Roku. The problem is, my wife likes using the headphones that connect to the remote control on the Roku device. I have found a workaround to get both picture and sound with the Roku. I have the input of the AV receiver connected to the headphone outlet of the TV (1/8" headphone jack to RCA plugs at other end). With that, I get a click, followed by a few seconds of silence, followed by the sound returning with a second or two of the "DOLBY" flag appearing in the upper right side of the screen. These interruptions occur at about the same frequency as the 020 errors, but I no longer get the picture loss and error screens.
Chat GPT did suggest that I had two distinct problems, the HDMI "handshake" and an audio processing issue. However, I suspect the HDMI issue is triggering the audio processing one, since the frequency of "glitches" correspond so closely.
