Panasonic Viera TV connected to Denon receiver via HDMI.  I also have a ZVOX soundbar connected to the TV via optical audio connection. 

Ordinarily I connect my Xfinity cable box to the HDMI (ARC) input on the TV, and sound comes from the soundbar and receiver just fine.  But if I plug the Roku stick (powered by plugin to wall outlet) into that same HDMI input on the TV, sound only comes from the soundbar.  It seems like it should be a simple issue but I haven't yet found a post that got sound through the receiver.  I've disconnected the soundbar, turned the receiver and TV on before plugging in the Roku stick, powered everything down and up, but no luck so far.

I've never used ARC myself, just use the traditional (pre-ARC) setup of all devices connect to the receiver, then from receiver to TV. This always works.

So I may not know what I'm talking about, but I'm actually surprised that you get audio from your cable box through your receiver. ie: you say, you have the receiver connected to the TV via a regular HDMI port, but NOT the HDMI/ARC port? I would expect that to send audio from the receiver to the TV, but not the other way around. From my understanding of ARC, connecting the Xfinity box to the TV via the ARC port would allow the TV to return the audio back to... the Xfinity box. ??

Sorry, I wasn't clear.  I do have the TV connected to the receiver via the HDMI/ARC port on the receiver.  I don't understand ARC or CEC (which Panasonic calls Viera Link, apparently) but a number of the things I've read stress the importance of connecting the Roku to HDMI/ARC ports.
