Roku Express 3960 problems with installing

Hi

I bought a Roku Express yesterday and tried to install on my TV. I got as far as being able to connect to wi-fi and then updating. On restarting, it keeps going back to the Let's get started screen - I cannot progress any further.  I've tried on two different TV's in different parts of the house. My wi-fi has a strong connection.  Any ideas please?

If you're using the TV's USB port to power it, try using a USB power adapter/charger from a phone or tablet that can supply at least 1 Amp.  Some TV's USB ports can't supply enough power.

Re: Roku Express 3960 problems with installing

Having now tried a 2nd Roku Express 3960 and encountering exactly the same problem with the 2nd one, I can only conclude there must be a glitch when it does the update. As it disconnects from the Wi-Fi and takes me back to the Let's get started screen, over n over.  What a load of rubbish.  My first ever Roku experience and will be my last.  This one too is going back!

Re: Roku Express 3960 problems with installing

@Anonymous-

When the setup fails to complete here are a some things that some people have found to work for them. They may not be universally successful, but they are at least worth a try.

Easiest to try, so try this first: Restart your router, even if other devices on the network are not having problems. When your router has completed its startup, try repeating your Roku setup.

(I know you've tried this already, but for the sake of others reading this...) If you are powering your Roku by plugging into the USB port on the TV, try powering from house power via a USB power adapter, as some TV USB ports don't supply enough power to drive a Roku reliably. If your Roku didn't come with an adapter, or if you don't have a Roku adapter handy, another USB power adapter you have from another device should work as long as the fine print on it says it outputs at least 1 amp.

Try using a different WiFi network to do the update - perhaps via a WiFi hotspot on your mobile phone or by taking it to a friend's house - and see if it will complete the update. If successful, then redo the WiFi connection to use your intended WiFi network via Settings > Network > Set up connection. Why this works, when it does, I haven't a clue.

Re: Roku Express 3960 problems with installing

Thanks - have tried all your suggestions.  It does complete the update but its after that it comes "undone" disconnects from wi-fi and then takes me back to the Lets get started screen.  I have given up now and ordered a Amazon Firestick.
