I just bought my first Roku device, the 4K Express streamer to use with my older 2017 Samsung 65" TV. (Separate issue, this change now makes my LG soundbar almost unusable, but that's a topic for another day.)
I'm thinking about upgrading to a Roku 4K TV Pro Series, but I'm wondering if it's redundant to use the new Roku 4K Express streamer with it. Would there be any advantage by continuing to use the external device?
It would be redundant to use a Roku device connected to a Roku TV, but that's my preferred setup. I've seen too many updates to Roku TVs that screws something up to the point that it's practically unusable until Roku figures out what they did this time. I'll never use a smart TV, Roku or otherwise, as a smart TV again. Keep them dumb and unconnected and use a separate streaming device. That's my mantra. 🙂

That's how I've been thinking about it too... doesn't matter how new/great your smart TV is, the processing power is so limited that it seems like an external device is the way to go. Thanks so much for getting back to me. 😃
