If by "initial screen", if you mean the Welcome - Lets Gets Started screen, your device may just be underpowered. Try using a USB power adapter at the wall outlet if you are currently using the TV USB for power. (any 5volt, 1amp cell phone charging adapter should work).
Otherwise, post back with the Roku model number and some specifics/screenshots if you can.
