The app loads, sign-in works but streaming hits error- mediaplayer 16
The Roku 3 is a very old device. While it is still officially supported by Roku, in reality some apps simply won't work correctly on them any more. There are two versions of the Roku 3, the 4200 released in March 2013 and the 4230 released in April 2015. So it's either almost 10 or almost 12 years old. Honestly, it's time for an upgrade.
Are you saying that Gem works on a Roku4? We have a gem subscription that worked fine on a 3 but is now throwing an error 16. I'm not interested in upgrading if I don't know for sure that a newer device will work.
@cavit8 The Roku 4 is completely unsupported by Roku and many providers. It's now 10 years old and Roku dropped support more than a year ago. I would not consider one, especially since all Roku players are on sale right now and you can get a brand new Express 4K+ for $25. The Express 4K+ will run circles around the old 4.
Looking into this a bit more, it seems the most likely solution to upgrade. I'm using a Roku 3 4200x so it's probably time to upgrade even if it doesn't solve this particular issue.
Upgrading from the Roku3 to the Express4K solved the issue. The Error16 is no longer present and the graphics have improved markedly, even with a 1080 projector.
