Seems like a half-baked spec to begin with, quite probably stepping on at least some h.264 IP, with absolutely no current hardware decoding support. The only potential benefit is the open licensing, which will certainly fall into lawsuits (whether or not they win, and who will defend it? Will Google put their money where their open mouth is?). Quality doesn't seem to be as good, decoding not as efficient as h.264.
