I wanted to point out to everyone that we recently updated the developer agreement.
Among the changes are a requirement to message the user in the case that your service is unusable:
In the event Your Channel Application becomes unusable by Roku users (for
instance if Your server goes down), Your Channel Application will contain a mechanism to
detect this problem that will generate and publish a message on the user interface of Your
Channel Application telling end users that Your service is down and which recommends
that they come back later. Where your Channel Application is subscription based or
contains one or more transactional “for purchase” offerings (whether such subscriptions or
billing arrangements are managed by Roku or otherwise), the message must also provide
an email or phone number associated with and monitored by You where the user can
obtain more information about the outage.
as well as a prohibition on International and foreign language channels without written approval from Roku:
B. The Content and Channel Application accessed, displayed and performed via your
Channel Application may not:
i. Be unlawful, harmful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, or invasive of
another’s privacy or right of publicity;
ii. Be encouraging of conduct that could constitute a criminal offense, give rise to
civil liability, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national, or
international law;
iii. Be Content that You do not have a right to transmit under any law or contractual
or fiduciary relationships;
iv. Violate any federal, state, international, or any other child pornography laws,
child sexual exploitation laws or laws prohibiting the depiction of minors
engaged in sexual conduct;
v. Contain forged headers or manipulated identifiers which disguise the origin of
any Content;
vi. For a Channel Application offered through the Channel Store, the Content may
not be obscene or pornographic and Your Channel Information may not contain
profanity or pornographic images, as determined by Roku in its sole discretion;
or
vii. contain foreign language or international Content generated outside of the US,
including but not limited to movies, sports, video on demand and/or news
services, without the prior written approval of Roku.
