No. I believe you could create a dummy channel just for testing the artwork, package it, upload it as a private channel via the developer website, and then install it via the private channel code to see what it would actually come out looking like. But you need to understand that there are two sets of icons now - the SD/HD icons inside the package/zip are used for the old(<5.0) interface home screen, and the SD/HD icons uploaded through the form on the developer website when channels are submitted are used by the channel store on both interfaces, AND by the new interface "My Channels" area. So in the new interface, the packaged icons aren't used now, only the icons provided on the website( AFAIK ). But if you want to support the oldest Rokus(1st generation), that won't be getting the updated interface, you have to provide them.

No need to go so far as to create a dummy channel. Just temporarily point the manifest at your channel store icon to test it.

I am currently using the "mm_icon_focus_hd" setting in the manifest to set that graphic, is there a different setting I should be using?

That's the correct setting (you should also be including an sd version). But put the channel store sized(290x218) icon in the zip, and point the mm_icon_focus_hd to that, instead of the 336x210 version, for side-loaded testing. Once you are confident the artwork looks right, point mm_icon_focus_hd back to the 336x210 file, and include the channel store hd/sd versions when uploading the finished package to the developer website.

Here's the complete breakdown of sizes:
Channel artwork for the Roku Channel Store and 5.0 My Channels:
HD version: 290px (W) x 218px (H)
SD version: 214px (W) x 144px (H)

Channel artwork for the pre-5.0 Roku home screen:
Focus HD: 336px (W) x 210px (H)
Focus SD: 248px (W) x 140px (H)
Sides HD: 108px (W) x 69px (H)
Sides SD: 80px (W) x 46px (H)

Re: Trouble with channel image size

Just as gonzotek recommended, when I set the 290x218 image as the mm_icon_focus_hd and side-load the app the icon is not squished. When I publish the channel and update the icon is still squished. I even re-uploaded the store icons.

Is there a delay between publishing a channel and the My Channels icon no longer being squished? Perhaps while a background process runs?

This is for a private channel.

Re: Trouble with channel image size

I may have inadvertently triggered whatever processing Roku is doing server-side with the channel images.

I was playing with the external control commands and launched the channel store to my private app ID. The first time I launched it the channel image was missing, the remote stopped responding, and the device crashed. I repeated this a few more times to remove & reinstall the app via the store on the device, with it crashing after every command, but once I got it reinstalled the icon is no longer smooshed in the My Channels listing.

This is all on a Roku 2 XS running 5.0 b8043.

Re: Trouble with channel image size

What format are the images? If I'm not mistaken, I believe channel store images have to be jpegs.
