Stream Security

Hi,
We are planning to host copyrighted videos and want to protect them from hackers as much as we can. Can one suggest the most secure way of streaming videos on Roku?

TIA

Re: Stream Security

you can't completely stop piracy. Actually, I think those that try the hardest actually get more attention from the pirates since they see it as a fun game to overcome the complex mechanisms some ip owners have put on the content. Even if you can make vcrs, blue ray recorders, etc. not work, there's always someone aiming a camcorder at the tv...

Re: Stream Security

Thanks mastermesh. I do understand that, but we would like to do our best.

Do you have any suggestions?

Re: Stream Security

The Developer Guide and the Encoding Guide both have sections speaking to security.

If you're using HLS, Roku supports AES-128 encryption as defined in the HLS spec. You can also use techniques like SSL, reserved headers, expiring URLs, and cookies to protect your content.
