Re: Roku does not remember private networks

Thanks - I got paranoid and removed some details from my earlier comment.
I wish I had that kind of chutzpah (feet on desk waiting for wifi while getting paid)  Smiley LOL

Re: Roku does not remember private networks

Well, I've reread this thread and I confess I don't understand your situation at all.  Are you in some kind of adversarial relationship with corporate IT?  You're in a company's office and connecting to their network without their knowledge and consent?  I don't get it.  If you're not comfortable explaining further, that's fine.

BTW, I apologize if I seem unnecessarily curmudgeonly about this.  It's a bit of a pet peeve with me.

It's understandable that some nontechnical person might set up his home network with a hidden SSID, believing that hiding information must provide more security.  But for a supposed IT professional to not only allow this violation of the 802.11 RFC, but require it, is inexcusable.  And in reality it doesn't make your network more secure, it makes it less secure, making it easier for an attacker to mount a KARMA or "Evil Twin" attack.

KARMAdgeon, pehaps?   Smiley LOL
Said KARMA is an interesting one, though i am not sure what has a Roku to be afraid of, given the Titanic-sized hole from the way Miracasting is mishandled - i am still slack-jawed from that one.

Re: Roku does not remember private networks

Miracast allows an intruder to cast a video to your Roku, which is certainly annoying but not dangerous.  Your computers and data, and even your Roku configuration (shows you've watched, etc) are not threatened.  An attack that gives an intruder access to your network and potentially all the devices within it is a much more serious issue.

Re: Roku does not remember private networks

I agree. There is no good reason for Roku to lack this functionality. I am doing testing that requires I connect to a VPN and switch between 2 different WIFI networks. I made a very long named SSID and It is a royal pain to punch in every time. Roku shouldn't require I change my home network security so their device is more usable.
